If you want to play GvG, then play.
My old guild played almost every night, and often during the day on weekends, and between 2 guilds we racked up around 1000-2000 games (I can't check because both are invisible on the ladder atm).
We made connections with other guilds, so if we were short 1-3 people we would ask around. Everyone had different friends on their list.
If one person stopped playing, of course it impacted the whole team. But we recruited new & old team members, and moved on.
If we lost 5 in a row, yes it had a huge effect on all of us. But that's just bad luck. Yes, you probably suck hardcore. Admit it, get over it, and keep playing.
You need to figure out why you're doing it. But no matter why, you will need to play *a lot*.
A huge issue for everyone outside Euro / US timezones is 30-minutes to 2-hour waiting times. Which means there's nobody playing. This then discourages any existing players, and makes it worse for newcomers and returned players (compound effect). It's too late to fix this - everybody has moved on to other games - but it signifies, to me, that more emphasis should be put on nurturing local/timezone gaming communities and communication between guilds. I'm already (casually) planning things for Aus/NZ timezone in GW2.
If wait times were <2 minutes, I'd play no matter how bad the meta/rules were. GvG is fun ... most of the time. Waiting for 2 hours is not fun.
